Kawthoolei Forestry Department
The Kawthoolei Forestry Department (KFD) is proud to officially announce the designation of the Eastern Highlands as a newly protected forest zone. Effective immediately, this initiative safeguards over 5,000 acres of vital primary forest from commercial exploitation, unauthorized agriculture, and illegal logging.
This decision marks a major milestone in our ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and climate change mitigation. The newly protected area is home to several endangered native plant species and provides critical habitats for local wildlife. The KFD will be deploying additional forest rangers to the region to ensure strict enforcement of environmental regulations. We thank the local communities for their continued support in helping us preserve our natural heritage.
